Questions with: Bruce Shepherd

Long time rallyist Bruce Shepherd fronts a family team heading to Alice Springs for their first COT. Let’s hear what they’ve been doing to get ready…

What car will you be running in the 2016 COT?
We are running a 1985 Peugeot 505 GTi. My son, Simon, bought this car as his daily driver 10 years ago before we put a cage in it in 2008. Since then the car has done three BPs, an Alpine, the 2010 Victorian Rally Championship, the 2015 State Bank Rerun and many navigational events. Development wise it has evolved over time but it has been lightened, has a modified 2.2L engine, Quaife diff, Volvo brakes and Jamie Drummond suspension.

Questions with: Ted Perkins

Father and son team, Ted and Joel Perkins, had a rotten run in COT2014, retiring after day 1. But, they’re fired up and prep is well under way for COT16…

What car will you be running in the 2016 COT? What is special; what is its history?
It’s a 1966 Lotus Cortina.  The car was originally built by the Tayell Automotive guys for Peter Riseborough back in 1993 at the start of historic rallying in Australia, Peter ran it for a couple of years, it wasn’t fast enough for him so it languished in the back of his shed for a while.

Warren Denham jumped at the chance to run in Classic Outback Cross Country when it was announced that it will run as a separate competition after the Classic and Modern cars.  Let’s meet him and find out why…

What car will you be running in the 2016 COT?
This year Arron and I will be running my 2003 Triton Ute in Classic Outback Cross Country. The Triton was built for my father, Terry Denham, for the 2007 Australian Safari. Questions with: Michael Ward

After a major problem on stage 1 of COT 2014, Michael Ward has some unfinished business to take are of in COT16. Let’s meet Michael and hear what’s he doing to get ready…

What car will you be running in the 2016 COT?
I’ll be running my Toyota Corolla TE37 Levin Replica. I built it for the 2014 COT (debuting it in the 2013 Alpine). Unfortunately the gearbox let me down on the first competitive section of the COT. It was replaced, and I finished the event, but down the back of the field.

Questions with: James Calvert-Jones

James Calvert-Jones has previously competed in the COT, but not since 2009. Let’s meet him and see what’s bought James and his very pretty 911 back…

What car will you be running in the 2016 COT?
We will be running the same 1984 Porsche 911 3.2 that we ran in the 2008 Red Centre to Gold Coast Rally with Ben Hardy and the 2009 Classic Outback Trial with Nicole Bryan. The car is still in good shape and is well looked after in the garage at my property in Mornington Peninsula. The car is prepared by Cairns Classic Modern Porsche Service.
