“Allcomer” Vehicle Eligibility Introduced; Supplementary Regulations Issued

An exciting initiative for the 2020 Classic Outback Trail will be the introduction of the Allcomers category, aimed at encouraging competitors to get their cars out of the garage and re-engage in rallying!

It will be similar to the Allcomers Category which is used in many New Zealand rallies and has proven to be popular and is keenly contested. The category caters for a wide variety of cars of varying technical specifications, but with modern safety engineering being a cornerstone of the category.

The 2020 Classic Outback Trial a gravel Special Stage Rally, to be conducted 8 -15 August, released its Supplementary Regulations today. Entries will open on Monday 6 April and close on Friday 24 July.

The 7-day rally will cover 725 kilometres of special stages in the Central West region of New South Wales, starting in Parkes, visiting Orange and finishing in Bathurst.

Servicing by service crews will be available – between the start and the lunchbreak, at the lunchbreak and then between that break and the day’s finish.

The Classic Outback Trail is open to Motorsport Australia National Rally Licence holders, as well as international entries. A Nomination (at $1000) can be made to guarantee a place in the 50 car competition field and this is deducted off the entry fee of $7500 ($5000 for the Regularity Category).

This year’s Classic Outback Trial will be run in three Categories, with three separate winners equally recognised:

  1. The traditional Classic Car Category for 2WD Historic (to 1980), Classic (to 1988) and Production Rally Cars (to 1985);
  2. A new Allcomers Category for 2WD and 4WD Club Cars (all years) and Production Rally Cars (from 1986), as well other cars which meet the organiser’s selection criteria will be introduced. Turbocharged 4WD cars will be required to be fitted with restrictors, and
  3. A Regularity Category, for any suitable 2WD and 4WD vehicle, conducted over a separate course to the other Categories.

Pre-event documentation and scrutiny will be conducted in Parkes on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th August, with a prologue held close to Parkes on Saturday afternoon, prior to the Classic Outback Trial/Parkes Welcome Function that evening, and a gala Awards Presentation will be held in Bathurst on the night of the finish on Saturday 15 August.

“We are, of course, very much aware of the situation with COVID-19 but with the event 4 months away we will continue with our detailed planning of Classic Outback Trial. As we announced recently we will continue to closely monitor the situation and abide by any advice or direction of the authorities responsible for NSW and National Health.”

“If, in due course, it is not possible to conduct the event in August, The Classic Outback Trial will be postponed to later in the year, or even to 2021”, said Philip Bernadou, the Event Director.
