Classic Outback Trial plans to go ahead

21 March 2020

Organisers’ current plans are to conduct the Classic Outback Trial in August 2020

Unfortunately most rallies due to be conducted in the next couple of months have been cancelled or postponed due to the current situation with the COVID-19 virus.

“With the Classic Outback Trial (COT) scheduled to be held some four months away in early August and because it is unclear what the situation will be then, we are going ahead with plans to conduct the 7 day, 33 special stage event” Philip Bernadou, the Event Director, announced today.

“Being a National dirt rally, with 7 days of competition over a 10 day period, the event will bring considerable income to the areas in which it is conducted. Given the present restrictions put in place by various authorities to curb the virus, bringing the COT to the area will be welcomed by locals and businesses if it can be conducted”.

“The nature of a rally means there are no large gatherings of participants during the competition each day, as they travel independently around the course. We will be able to adapt the event to meet the NSW Health requirements for non-essential organised gatherings by fewer than 500 attendees. The event itself has an attendance of around 350 individuals such as competitors, service crews and officials.”

Bernadou further stated that Organisers will continue to closely monitor the situation and abide by any advice or direction of the authorities responsible for NSW and National Health.

If, in due course, it is not possible to conduct the event in August, the COT will be postponed to later in the year, or even to 2021 – subject to acceptance by Motorsport Australia under whose auspices the event is conducted.
