Questions with: John Henderson

Let’s meet another entrant for the 2016 COT. While John Henderson has competed in the COT before – as co-driver for Mike Batten in COT 2012 – this will be his first run as a driver. We caught up with John and co-driver, Jeff West via the magic of international email – just before they were about to start another motorsport adventure.

What are your expecting from the 2016 COT; what are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to good roads, not TOO rough – and enjoying them with good people.

What car will you be running in the 2016 COT? What is special; what is its history; where is it at?
It’s a 1974 Volvo 144 that we built to do Sydney London Marathon in 2014. Not a special stage car in any sense, but it’s comfortable and suits a couple of slow old fellas! It’s currently in the shed in Bathurst, NSW, waiting for us to get back and give it some TLC.

Who will be in your team? Who is your co-driver, team manager or service crew? What’s your history as a team?
Jeff West is my co-driver – he is currently here in Canada for the Trans Am with me. We did the Sydney to London Marathon together in 2014, we do occasional AMSAG and CAMS events and navigational rallies.

We manage ourselves! Our service crew will be Gerald Lee and Peter Thomson who crewed for us on the Sydney to Perth section of the SLM.

Have you been to Alice Springs before? What are you expecting or looking forward to seeing?
Haven’t been there for years. It will be good to see the Red Centre again.

My wife and I will be making a holiday of it on the drive from Sydney and back.

Who are your sponsors or supporters?

John Henderson (L) and Jeff West looking very happy at the end of the SLM. They came a fantastic 10th OR.

What will you be doing to get ready for the 2016 COT?
We’ll give the car a good wash.

Where are you, and what are you doing as you answer these questions?
We’re currently in Halifax, Canada waiting for the start of ERA’s 2nd Trans America Challenge. We’re currently hoping the air conditioning in the 1973 Corvette (that we’re doing it in) gets fixed before we hit Nevada in summer.

Thanks John… We’ve enjoyed following you and Jeff on the Trans America through your update on “John and Jeff do the Trans Am 2015”. Great to have you and Jeff on board – see you in Alice Springs!
