2016 Classic Outback Trial to include modern rally cars and regularity

The 2016 Classic Outback Trial will be expanded to include an event for modern rally cars and a regularity event. COT Organisers have done this to expand the entry and also, in response to demand by potential competitors.

“We have received very positive feedback about 2014 and also about the chance to rally in the Red Centre in 2016” said Philip Bernadou, the Event Director.

“We also had comments from some people without classic rally cars, who expressed disappointment that they would not be eligible to take part” he said. “This event will be in a fabulous part of Australia and we want as many crews as possible to enjoy it.”

In 2016 the COT will include an event for modern rally cars and also a regularity event. The Classic Outback Trial 2016 will be conducted as:

  • Classic Outback Trial – a special stage rally for 2WD vehicles prior to 1986;
  • Classic Outback Modern – a special stage rally for 2WD and 4WD vehicles from 1986 onwards;
  • Classic Outback Regularity – a regularity event for any vehicle.

In the same way Australian Championship rounds are conducted, the three events will share a mostly common route but will be run separately.
